The Beginning

Updated: Apr 17, 2020

In 2019 I spent my summer as a counselor at Olympia Sports Camp. I worked with children of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. I lost myself in the wonderful place that is Olympia. When you are there you are lifted up by the people around you and are constantly being supported and encouraged to be the best person you can be. The time I spent living among campers and working with them to grow, showed me the importance of a camp experience in a child's life. It was week six when I had the pleasure of meeting one camper that came from the foster care system in Toronto. They had provided her with the opportunity to attend camp for a week that summer. It was in this moment that I realized I had not seen any foster children from York Region attend camp that summer. That set me on the path to provide the opportunity for a foster child from my community to experience the power and support Olympia has to offer. In that moment the seed had been placed in my mind of wondering how I could create this opportunity for foster children in my area and how I can make it benefit them the most. That was when Let Kids Lead was born.
